| Meet Donna Orman
THE STORY BEHIND THE GOOD!
“I’ve always loved animals”, said Blue Sky Dog Rescue Founder Donna Orman. “Needless to say when I would see a dog on the side of the road with that lost look about them, it would break my heart! One day I decided I had to try to help. My first two fosters were Bleu (who was at a local shelter and was to be euthanized the next day) and Skyee (who was about 3 months old wandering down DeSoto Road scared, hungry and very lost). Bleu is now living in Huntsville, AL with Sam (another Blue Heeler), and Skyee’s Forever Family includes 3 great kids and a big swimming pool which she loves! It was such a rewarding feeling just knowing that now they were going to have wonderful lives!”
In fact, that is how the rescue group got its name. Blue Sky Dog Rescue (BSDR) is named in honor of those two first rescues….Bleu and Skyee.
“However”, Donna continued, “there were times (once when I had 10 rescues in the kennel area and my own 3 in the house) when I thought maybe what I was doing was really wrong. I didn’t have fosters to help me and I couldn’t give the rescues the one-on-one attention I wanted them to have. I was paying for all the vet bills, food, and supplies on my own. Also, my own 3 in the house no longer had all my attention. That’s when my sister Wini would give me a very much needed pep talk – she was my moral support, never wavering!
Then one day Athena ( a sweet rescue with a broken leg ) and the neighbors who found her entered my life, and the world of BSDR began to grow and grow and grow. As word spread so did out volunteer base and support.”
“I am proud that BSDR is now a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. Funded by donations, our dedicated volunteers rescue, socialize, rehabilitate, foster and ultimately adopt out dogs who need out help. That is our mission… that is what we focus on.”
